Have a Bed Bug-Free Southern Louisiana Home

No one wants to think that they might have tiny bugs around their bed at night, but it’s the reality for many. Bed bug infestations can happen anywhere and to anyone. In Louisiana, in particular, the bed bug problem in homes and even reputable hotels continues to increase. With powerful and effective bed bug treatment, Delta Pest Services will remove your infestation and prevent these bugs from ever returning.

While bed bugs aren’t known to spread disease, they are a major annoyance. Some may suffer from red, itchy bumps where they bite. If you’re suffering from bites or find small, rust-colored spots in your bed, you most likely have bed bugs, as those spots are droppings.

Our professionally trained bed bug exterminators will inspect your home using suitable equipment and discover the location and level of infestation in your home with precision. From there, we build you an effective and consistent bed bug treatment plan.

Call us today to learn more about bed bugs or to request your free quote. We respond to general inquiries immediately during business hours, and we can provide your free estimate within the same day if we have availability.

Common Places for Bed Bugs to Hide

Bed bugs generally enter your home undetected by latching onto fabrics like your clothes or even furniture. From there, they make themselves at home and begin to repopulate quickly. The most common places they will hide in your bed are within the box spring or mattress, the headboard, or under the bed or sheets.

When these tiny, flat, tear-drop-shaped insects get hungry at night, they can crawl from their hiding spot to the nearest person and feed away. Once they are full, the bed bugs will return to their hiding place and stay there until they’re hungry for their next meal.

How to Prevent Bed Bugs

Southern Louisiana has such a high quantity of bed bugs because it’s a highly-populated area and receives many visitors a year. The influx of people increases the probability of them spreading, meaning people regularly transport these insects in and out of our community unknowingly. There are some precautions you can take, though, to prevent the need for an exterminator, such as:

  • Avoid bringing used furniture into your home without a thorough inspection
  • Install a bed bug cover on all your mattresses to help prevent them from living in your mattress
  • Reduce clutter and vacuum frequently
  • If you go to a laundromat, transport your clothing in a sealed bag and inspect it for signs of bed bugs before bringing them into your home
  • When staying in a hotel or Airbnb, check for signs of these bugs by inspecting the mattress, carpet, and other furniture
  • Make sure to use the luggage rack for your suitcase. Bed bugs cannot climb luggage racks that are made of metal, and the rack prevents them from getting into the suitcase. You can also store your luggage in the bathtub if there is no luggage rack available. Setting luggage on beds or even wood furniture will not keep the pests from infesting the suitcase as they have hooks on their feet and can climb those surfaces

Signs of a Bed Bug Infestation

Waking up to itchy, red bites across your body is generally the clearest sign that you might have a bed bug problem in your home. However, some people may have bite marks appear two or three days after a feeding, while others may not have any markings at all. In other words, don’t wait until you see bites to call an exterminator. A few signs that you may need bed bug treatment are:

  • Bloodstains on pillows or sheets: Bloodstains are not from the parasites piercing your skin. the bloodstains occur when you unknowingly squish one of the night crawlers either during or after their feedings, which occur at night
  • Strong, musty odor: Like other bug species, bed bugs release pheromones that may smell like a wet blanket. As the number increases, the smell will grow stronger. Try washing your laundry, sheets, and furniture to see if the smell goes away. If the smell returns within a few days, you may have a bed bug infestation
  • Unexplained rust-colored or black stains: Unless you accidentally stained your sheets with a red, brown, or blackish marker, the small, splotchy stains that you see could actually be fecal matter

If you see signs of an infestation, call Delta Pest Services right away. We’re trusted exterminators in Southern Louisiana, and we'll provide a free inspection to verify you do have a problem. If we find signs of infestation, we’ll build a treatment plan and begin to eliminate the pests quickly.
